Management Skills

What is it?

Effective coaching has little to do with telling people what they should be doing.

Management Skills

It is more about helping them discover what they need to do and how to do it, through a combination of questioning, feedback, challenge and providing an opportunity to practice new behaviours and supporting with an ongoing Action Plan to help people achieve what they want to.  This can be an ideal solution to work on specific areas with the support and encouragement of a professional coach, and will focus on development of performance within the workplace. image 2

Target Group

Managers and Leaders at all levels in a wide variety of settings, who may need coaching because:-

  • They were promoted because they are good at what they did (professional/ technical roles). Difficulty for these managers may be letting go of familiar territory and entering more complex world of competition, pressure, rapid change & people management. Coaching can help them learn how to balance day to day operations, people management and planning for the future.
  • The ever increasing pace of change and need for greater customer focus and flexibility means leaders & managers can no longer work to a fixed set of rules.  Previous ‘command and control’ leadership styles no longer work. Coaches can help in a variety of ways by creating a safe environment where some of this unlearning is possible and new learning is experienced.

  • Beneficial for organisations who need to support staff development yet for whatever reason a “traditional” training workshop is not appropriate. Areas such as effective communication, planning and time management, working with others, managing conflict, developing confidence, whatever is necessary to allow individuals and the organisation to succeed. Confidentiality guaranteed.

The Coaching Process

3 stages

  1. Assessment - Initial interview and assessment of strengths and challenges
  1. Action Planning - Coaching contract agreed to include clear outcomes to be achieved, timescales and methodology
  2. Coaching - Needs are addressed through a series of one-to one sessions with telephone support. The number of sessions is up to you – depending on your specific needs and objectives.
